INNOVATIONS

We are redefining what it means to care for patients with dementia and memory loss by pairing compassionate, personalized medicine with the latest advancements in neuroscience. From mobile TMS therapy and genetic testing to cognitive brain training and advanced diagnostic tools, we bring cutting-edge solutions directly to our patients. Our approach goes beyond managing symptoms, we aim to slow progression, preserve independence, and restore hope for patients and the families who love them.

MOBILE TMS

IMG_3082.jpeg

Transcranial magnetic stimulation, or TMS, is an FDA-cleared, non-invasive therapy that uses gentle electromagnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain involved in mood, memory, and cognitive function. It requires no anesthesia, no medication, and no recovery time, making it a compelling option for older adults who may not tolerate additional drugs or who have not responded well to traditional antidepressants. Research has found that TMS is a safe and effective non-pharmacological treatment for older adults with depression, even when they also have other chronic health conditions such as dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Studies also suggest it can be used alongside existing medications to provide a multi-pronged approach to care, without the gastrointestinal side effects or drug interactions that often accompany standard Alzheimer's medications.

At Cerebral Care Consulting, we use the Ampa One, a fully portable, FDA-cleared TMS system that fits in the trunk of a car and can be brought directly to a patient's room or apartment at their assisted living or memory care community. This technology delivers powerful, accelerated TMS treatment in as little as three minutes, compared to the traditional 37-minute sessions used in conventional TMS therapy, making it practical, comfortable, and accessible for even the most fragile patients.

SYN-ONE TESTING

The Syn-One Test®, developed by CND Life Sciences, is revolutionizing how conditions like Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia are diagnosed by detecting an abnormal protein called alpha-synuclein directly in the nerves of your skin. Three tiny skin samples, each about the size of a pencil eraser, are collected from the back of the neck, above the knee, and above the ankle in a simple 15-minute procedure with over 95% accuracy. At Cerebral Care Consulting, we bring this test directly to your loved one and can perform it right in their room or apartment at their assisted living or memory care community, eliminating the stress of an outside clinic visit. The test is covered completely by most Medicare and secondary insurance combinations, with our team verifying coverage ahead of time. In some cases, an out-of-pocket cost may apply.

BRAIN HQ

BrainHQ, developed by Posit Science and backed by more than 100 published research studies, is a clinically validated brain training program built on the science of neuroplasticity — the brain's ability to grow and strengthen at any age. Through engaging exercises targeting memory, attention, and processing speed, it acts like a personal trainer for the brain. A 20-year study published in 2026 found that cognitive speed training used in BrainHQ reduced Alzheimer's and dementia diagnoses, making it the first intervention of any kind, including drugs, to show such a result. At Cerebral Care Consulting, we incorporate BrainHQ into our patients' care plans as an evidence-based tool to help maintain cognitive function and give patients and families an active role in brain health between appointments.

GENESIGHT TESTING

For decades, finding the right psychiatric medication has been a frustrating process of trial and error that can take months or years to get right. GeneSight is a simple genetic test that changes that. By analyzing how your body metabolizes psychiatric medications, it helps your doctor determine which medications are most likely to be effective based on your unique genetic profile, reducing unnecessary side effects and speeding up the path to feeling better. The test itself is painless — just a simple cheek swab with results returned to your provider in about three days.

Results are organized into a color-coded system: green means the medication is likely to work well, yellow means it may require dosage adjustments, and red means it may cause side effects or be less effective based on your genetics. For older adults already managing multiple medications, this is especially valuable in avoiding dangerous interactions. At Cerebral Care Consulting, we order and collect the GeneSight test right in your loved one's room or apartment, so families can have confidence that the medications their loved one is taking are the right ones for their unique biology.

gammaCore

The vagus nerve is one of the most important nerves in the body, carrying critical communications between the brain and the heart, lungs, stomach, and beyond. gammaCore is an FDA-cleared, handheld non-invasive vagus nerve stimulator that uses gentle electrical stimulation through the skin of the neck to treat and prevent headache pain, including migraine and cluster headache, without surgery, pills, or injections. By activating the body's natural pain inhibition pathways, it offers a compelling drug-free alternative for older adults who are already managing multiple medications or who cannot tolerate additional side effects. At Cerebral Care Consulting, we incorporate gammaCore into our mobile practice and can introduce and oversee therapy right in your loved one's room or apartment, making access to this breakthrough technology simple and stress-free.

Quest Diagnostics AD-DETECT

Red Blood Cells

For families navigating memory loss or cognitive decline, one of the most difficult parts is not knowing. The AD-Detect test, offered through Quest Diagnostics, is changing that. This blood test is designed to help physicians confirm amyloid brain pathology in patients with mild cognitive impairment or dementia by measuring two key biological markers, amyloid beta 42/40 and p-tau217, which are closely associated with Alzheimer's disease. The results are used to generate an AD-Detect Likelihood Score, giving physicians a concrete, data-driven picture of what is happening in the brain. Research presented at the 2025 AAN Annual Meeting demonstrated the test's greater than 90% sensitivity and specificity, making it one of the most accurate blood-based Alzheimer's diagnostics available today. At Cerebral Care Consulting, we order the AD-Detect test as part of our comprehensive cognitive evaluation process, coordinating directly with Quest Diagnostics so that families get answers quickly, without unnecessary trips to outside facilities.
